In my own words

Behind the track

My Girls is about my two daughters and the way being their dad keeps teaching me things I thought I already knew. I’ve always been quick with an answer or a plan. They’ve taught me that sometimes the most useful thing I can do is listen.

I’m proud of who they’ve become, the choices they make and the lives they’re building. I want them to follow their own paths, knowing I’m behind them. And I still miss the ordinary evenings when we were all at home, their voices carrying through the house.

I’m not much of a caller, but they’re often in my thoughts. This song puts some of those thoughts into words: the pride, the affection, a little stubbornness, and the memories that catch me when everything goes quiet. Those evenings seemed ordinary at the time. They mean more to me now. I wanted my girls to hear that.
